About Bitten

Bitten is a bit of my own college experiences mixed in with a story about an unfortunate girl named Selene that happens to be a young werewolf.

New chapters are every Monday, sometimes I'll post a short chapter on Thursdays as a bonus.

After a few weeks, I will submit Bitten to review sites, and I will start to offer commenting incentives as well.

Please comment and let me know what you think of the story!

Bitten is best viewed in Firefox or Internet Explorer (for some reason).

44. Greg

Friday, November 13th
Waxing Crescent Moon (Nine Nights to Full Moon)

He’d been living with us for five days. I was counting because he wasn’t supposed to be there. Visiting hours were over by midnight and we weren’t allowed to have guys over past that time. But he was spending the night in Stephanie’s room, and they weren’t just sleeping in there.

His name was Greg, and he was Stephanie’s new boyfriend. I didn’t know exactly how long they had been dating, but it wasn’t nearly long enough to justify the sleepovers. It wasn’t even spending the night, I noticed as I brushed my teeth in the mornings, having to push his shaving kit out of the way to make room at the sink. He had made himself at home, more evidenced by him cooking macaroni on our stove while Stephanie was at class, leaving his dishes in the sink like someone was going to clean up after him.

Stephanie hadn’t asked us if he could stay, she just introduced him to me one afternoon when I walked in on the two making out on the couch. Nor had she mentioned that he would be staying with us or how long. Not that it would have mattered if we gave our approval. It was against the rules and if our RA found out, we could all get in trouble.

I could hear them at night and I could hear them together in the shower that I was now sharing with two other people, the loud moans coming from her bedroom. They weren’t subtle about it, and since my hearing was already better than normal, it made it hard to shut out the noises when I was trying to sleep.

“I could kill him,” Lilith offered after she finished taking my blood. He was out on the living room couch enjoying the new TV that Lilith had put out there.

“I don’t want him to die, I just want him not living here anymore,” I applied a slight bit of pressure to the wound in my neck, though it was already healing.

“I could make him sick, you know, anemic.”

“He would probably just stay longer then,” I sighed. The kitchen was a mess and the apartment was starting to smell. Neither Stephanie nor Greg were doing their dishes, even though she was cooking for him every night. I had always cleaned up after myself, which was a given, but I had to push Kelsie and Stephanie to do any chores at all. I felt like a nag sometimes, but it was annoying to walk into the kitchen and see a mountain of dishes. We even had a dishwasher, but they still insisted on piling dirty dishes in the sink. I couldn’t even use the sink most of the time because it was so full. Not only that, but the stuck-on food smelled bad and they didn’t even bother to rinse the dishes or throw out old food. Not something that’s enjoyable when you have a nose that is incredibly more sensitive than a normal human’s.

“Where did he come from? Doesn’t he have somewhere that he lives?” I asked her.

She only shrugged.

“Our roommate is dating a bum,” I sighed.

I heard a shrieking sound and jumped to my feet, the blood loss making me slightly dizzy. “Was that Kelsie?” I asked Lilith as I leaned against the wall while my head cleared.

“Sounded like it,” She smiled, her teeth still tinged red with my blood. She always seemed happy about the misfortune of others.

I opened the door and peered out the hallway, looking to see what was the matter. I saw Kelsie perched on the arm of the couch, trying to get away from what looked like a clear plastic ball. However, peering more closely at the ball, I noticed that there was something moving inside of it.

I walked down the hallway and into the living room to see what exactly was happening. Stephanie was laughing and Greg was picking up the ball gingerly. “He’s not going to hurt you,” She was telling Kelsie. “He just wants to say hi!

“It’s a rat,” Kelsie said. “It’s disgusting!”

“What’s that?” I asked, pointing at the ball.

“We got a hamster!” Stephanie said, all grins as she took the ball from Greg and shoved it in my face, the little white hamster staring at me and twitching its nose. “But Kelsie doesn’t seem to like Waffles.”

“Well, we’re not supposed to have pets in the dorm,” Just like we’re not supposed to have our boyfriends over to spend the night, I thought but held my tongue.

“They won’t find out about him, he’s just a little hamster. He likes to get his exercise though, I was letting him roll around in his ball. He doesn’t scare you, does he?”

“No,” I said, pushing the ball away from my face. She put it back on the floor and it started running, bumping into the dining room table, “but we’re not supposed to have him.”

“It’s too late,” She grinned. “We can’t take him back.”

I left the room a few minutes later, stalking into Lilith’s room rather than my own. “What would happen if our roommates ended up missing?” I asked.

“The whole dorm is going to smell like hamster a week from now,” She said, ignoring my question.

“If they keep it alive that long,” I sighed, as I listened through the closed door to Stephanie and Kelsie arguing about the hamster out in the hallway. Stephanie was standing her ground, saying that her and Greg adopted the hamster and were planning to care for it together.

“Since you and him started going together, you don’t spend any time with me anymore. You don’t even care about my feelings,” Kelsie said overdramatically.

“We’ve only been dating for like two weeks, and you’re the one that introduced us at that Halloween party.”

“I didn’t know you guys were gonna hit it off so well and go on to adopt a hamster child!” I heard a door slam, with Kelsie presumably ending the conversation by shutting herself off in her room.

“You can be Waffles’ Godmother,” I heard Stephanie say, trying in vain to make it up to Kelsie, but Kelsie didn’t respond.

I covered my mouth to stifle the laughter as I glanced over at Lilith. I felt strangely happy about the drama between the two, though it probably wouldn’t last long. I would enjoy the entertainment while it lasted.

A/N: Sorry again about lateness (and kind of shortness). I had a test and a final Tuesday and Wednesday, so I've been studying. I wonder if this chapter seems a little too goofy. Some of this happened in real life. Yes, one of my roommates had her boyfriend over for several weeks, we got caught, and we got in trouble. None of my roommates ever really enjoyed cleaning up after themselves and the dish thing was always a problem. Yes, they had sex at all hours of the night and morning and it kept me up. I also believe they did it in the shower that I shared with her. And yes, they adopted a hamster, though I changed the names of all characters involved to protect the innocent (hamster) a well as the guilty (roommate and her bf). The hamster was always rolling around the apartment, and it would even roll into our rooms. I can't count the number of times it got stuck under my bed and she would be walking around the dorm looking for it. What I didn't include was the roommate with the guinea pigs who died because she didn't take care of them and then she got a snake (which we reported and she had to get rid of). She then told the RA that she thought it was okay to have a pet because the other girl had a hamster. I don't think any of us really liked each other that semester.

You're probably wondering right now why Lilith and Selene are getting along so well. Lilith doesn't really want Selene to hate her, I think Lilith really even wants Selene to be her friend. The only thing is, Lilith only thinks about herself and she will do what needs to be done and use who she needs to use in order to accomplish her goals. This is loosely the character of the person that Lilith is based on. Nothing says Selene and Lilith have to be at each other's throats all the time.

Selene and Lilith's relationship confuses me ._. one day they hate each other, the next they're bffs laughing about they're dramatic roommates?

I wouldn't say they are best friends, more like they are days they get along better than most. It is hard to keep that kind of anger going all the time, more so if the other person is being almost friendly.

Could also be the blood loss as that will make you do silly things as well. And being fead on does do things to people in other vampire stories.

I think you mean "how long" here: "staying with us or now long."

Daymon: Thanks for finding the mistake, sometimes N's look like H's to me, silly fonts. :P You're right about the friendship thing. Lilith isn't really being all that mean to her, she's just using her. She even offered her a position in the Pack.

Rio: Did you read the last part of my note? They're not bffs, it's kind of like that sort of friendship when you tolerate and talk to someone because they're the only one you can.
